Do you have Morocco on your head for a girl trip?
Morocco is a gateway to Africa and a country of dizzying diversity. From mountain ranges to sweeping deserts, you’re sure to find something you’ve been dreaming of.
I went to Morocco in late April 2018 with 2 girls and if you wonder whether we felt safe, yes we did, using common sense, taking safety measures and of course a sip of adventurousness. The weather in April is already hot so make sure you pack your summer clothes. Plus, it’s Africa!

Our 5 day itinerary consisted of 3 days in Marrakesh and a 2 Day Desert Tour which included the town of Ouarzazate, Zagora and a night in the desert.
Marrakesh – 3 days
Marrakesh is the hub of markets, but also home to mosques, palaces and gardens. If you’re a “shop addict” and like a good bargain, then this is your place! And it doesn’t end there, there’s also tips and a packing guide for you to take advantage of this adventurous country! All for you.

Zagora Desert Tour – 2 days

Definitely the highlight of the trip! We booked a 2-Day Zagora Sahara Desert Tour from Marrakesh which took us through the Atlas Mountains, the Hollywood film-making site Art Ben Haddou in addition to one-night staying at the DESERT (reached by riding your own camel).
Take a look at my journey below.
Day 1: Marrakech — Ait Ben Haddou — Zagora

We left Marrakesh at 7:00 AM in a small van of ten people that we had the chance to meet while on tour. On our way we stopped in a few viewpoints to appreciate the Atlas Mountains, the second highest mountain in Africa.
The first stop was the impressive UNESCO World Heritage site Ksar Ait Ben Haddou, a striking example of southern Moroccan architecture. The ksar, a group of earthen buildings surrounded by high walls, is a traditional pre-Saharan habitat. What’s more? Dozens of Hollywood movies were filmed there, the most famous being Kingdom of Heaven, The Mummy, Gladiator (…). The second stop was in the Draa Valley, well-known for its amazing ksour and kasbah.
When we finally reached Zagora, it was the time for a one-hour camel ride towards the desert campsite while watching a fabulous sunset! You’ll have a lot of fun but the ‘nomad transport’ can also be quite uncomfortable. ? To finish in style, we enjoyed a Berber dinner with the other travellers and impromptu music around a bonfire. It was a very nice experience, not to mention sleeping in a tent ?? under a dome of stars. ?
Day 2: Zagora – Ouarzazate – Marrakesh
We got up early to watch the sunrise (picture) as it’s really worth it. Then we had a typical Berber breakfast and our way back on a camel ride. From Zagora, we took our way back to Marrakesh through Ouarzazate, also named the door of the desert, and another popular film-making site.
TIP: When booking tours, check whether meals and entrances to sites are included, otherwise you need to bring extra cash (in fact, bring extra cash any ways as most places don’t accept cards and you probably want to buy stuff). Me and my friends didn’t have enough money on us and we had to pay the driver in the end but maybe it was pure luck (haha).
Final Thoughts
The noise and bustle of the snake charmers, vendors and labyrinthine markets in Marrakesh. The beauty of Moroccan architecture. A night in the desert which reflect the magical yet simplicity of our surroundings. All of these are experiences full of excitement that allow us to connect with that inner child in us who enjoys adventures.
