1. Visit the Colosseum & Roman Forum 

No trip to Rome is complete without seeing the Colosseum. That’s right, one of the world’s most iconic landmarks. Go back in time and imagine the gladiatorial games that once captivated thousands. Right next door, the Roman Forum offers a peek into the heart of ancient Rome, with ruins of temples, basilicas, and palaces.

TIP: You should buy your tickets + a week in advance to avoid massive queues and unavailability. The best times to visit are either early morning or later afternoon.

Make a wish by tossing a coin into the Trevi Fountain. According to legend, doing so ensures that you’ll return to Rome one day. This Baroque masterpiece is one of the city’s most popular attractions, and it’s a sight to behold, especially when illuminated at night.

TIP: I recommend a free walking tour to learn more about its history, like I did. It takes about 2.5 hours and it covers Piazza Navona as well as the outside and history of Pantheon.

TIP: It’s best to book your tickets locally as direct entrances are quicker.

This iconic staircase, with 135 elegantly ascending steps, connects Piazza di Spagna to the charming Trinità dei Monti church above. Adorned with colourful seasonal flowers, it’s a favorite spot for visitors to pause and soak in the bustling energy of the city.
