“We know when a place has captured our heart when we want to go back there. Both to Casa do Vale and Marvão, where there is so much to discover.

Hospitality has several ways of manifesting itself. The best forms of hospitality are offered without announcement, often with just the honest intention of everyday words, such as a simple “how are you?” After all, what is the most valuable thing we have to offer each other other than our time? This is precisely the time that Cristina and Jorge offer their guests. They offer the time they dedicated over 8 years to a local accommodation project, full of adjectives, which you will learn about throughout this article.

If you’re seeking a tranquil escape in inland Portugal, I highly recommend this place—it’s where you’ll truly find peace, surrounded by nature and an immense silence.

The refuge in nature you seek

Casa do Vale is located 8km from the Roman city of Ammaia and 10km from Portalegre. Located in a sunny valley, surrounded by harmonious forest greenery, vineyards and cultivated fields, the house, whose origins date back to a rural farmhouse, asserts itself as more than a simple local accommodation.

Featuring two houses, one with capacity for four and the other with capacity for eight, fully equipped with everything modernity demands, the house maintains its rural origins in its interior and exterior decoration. A dichotomous experience in which comfort is a constant. Some rooms have a balcony, TV and private bathroom. In the kitchen, there is a fridge, dishwasher, microwave and coffee machine.

The attention to detail and the guest’s well-being are evident at every glance, as is the silence offered by Nature, which invite us to express gratitude for the existence of places like this accommodation, which invite us to reconnect with the environment and ecology.

The swimming pool, with spring water, treated in an ecological and environmentally friendly way, is one of the strong points of the 10 hectare property, which, together with a barbecue area and an outdoor social area, invite time with those from who likes it most.

Unique Experiences in Marvão

Rail Bike Marvão

Outside the property you will find recreational activities and contact with nature. Of particular note is the Rail Bike in the village of Beirã and the pedestrian trails with iconic landscapes characteristic of the Marvão region.

The region is also known for its scenic pedestrian trails, winding through rolling hills, cork oak forests, and ancient stone paths, offering breathtaking viewpoints of the Serra de São Mamede Natural Park.

For history enthusiasts, a visit to Marvão Castle (marvão castelo) is a must, where you can explore medieval walls and enjoy panoramic views stretching into Spain. The village itself is a delight to wander through, with its whitewashed houses, charming cobbled streets, and traditional craft shops. Nature lovers can also go birdwatching, as Marvão is a prime spot for observing rare species. For a more relaxing experience, enjoy a wine tasting at a local vineyard or savor Alentejan cuisine at a traditional restaurant.

It’s the perfect getaway in Portugal

Whether you prefer adventure or cultural exploration, Marvão offers something for every traveler. But what we liked the most was the breathtaking nature of inland Portugal. Being here felt like you’re lost in time, far from the crowds of the coastal cities. It’s the perfect retreat in the truest sense of the word. It’s pure bliss.
